The Central Reserve Bank of Peru, BCRP, invites applications for the positions of Research Economist in the Monetary Policy Department and Research Economist in the Monetary Operations and Financial Stability Department. Both positions focus are oriented toward conducting high-quality policy-oriented research that supports macroeconomic analysis and policy decisions on monetary policy and financial stability, while also carrying out other duties determined by the institution.

A Ph.D. in Economics, Finance, or related fields is required. However, applicants who are ABD (All But Dissertation) will also be considered, provided they can demonstrate a firm defense date prior to the end of September 2026.

The ideal candidate must possess a strong background in economic theory and demonstrate experience in empirical and/or theoretical research in areas related to monetary policy and/or financial stability. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to capital markets, digital currencies, econometrics, finance, international economics, macroeconomics, labor markets, monetary policy, and payment systems.

Main Responsibilities

  • Conduct empirical or theoretical research in areas relevant to the corresponding departments.
  • Prepare research papers for dissemination on the institution’s website and for publication in top-tier international academic journals.
  • Contribute to the formulation of policy proposals, contributing to the development of technical tools, analytical work, and reports to be discussed with Managers and/or the Board of Directors of the BCRP.
  • Actively participate in national and international seminars, conferences, and workshops.
  • Support the organization and coordination of seminars, conferences, and academic activities promoted by the institution.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the corresponding department.

  • Job Market Paper (for Ph.D. candidates) and/or relevant research papers
  • Fluency in English and intermediate proficiency in Spanish

Desirable Qualifications

  • Publications in academic journals
  • Experience in central banking, international organizations, or prestigious universities
  • Experience with data management and econometric modeling
  • Teaching experience in master’s or doctoral programs at recognized universities

Selection Process1

The selection process consists of the following stages:

  • Application deadline: December 20, 2025 (applications received after this date may be considered on a rolling basis until the positions are filled).

  • Stage 1: Application review and screening, from December 22 to January 9, 2026.

  • Stage 2: First round interviews with a selection committee formed by three- or four members. From January 12 to January 23, 2026.

  • Stage 3: From February 9 to February 20, 2026.

  • Seminar: Each candidate will present a seminar on their Job Market Paper or their main research submitted with their application package, to the staff members designated by the relevant department. The seminar may be virtual or in person, depending on BCRP’s needs.

  • Interviews with BCRP members: Each candidate will be interviewed by various BCRP members designated by the corresponding departments.

  • Competency Assessment.

  1. Type of employment contract: For Peruvians: Indefinite term contract. For non-residents: 3 years fixed-term contract, subject to renewal for equal consecutives periods in accordance with the Peruvian Law No. 689 – Law on the Hiring of Foreigners.
  2. Location: Lima, Peru. Must obtain work authorization in Peru and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment.
